I think this is a very complete write up on the process, a lot of good points can be taken into consideration when designing a native app as well. Good article as always.
Yes, as I've learned recently, the iOS App design guidelines can easily be applied to the Mobile Web, with a few key differences. Thanks!
I'm curious — are the majority of your site's visitors on Android devices, or are you just basing this on market share breakdowns? That's basically the opposite of what we usually see in site metrics.
This depends on your geographical location. iOS is more dominant in the US, but the opposite is true in Hong Kong.
Good to know!
This is a great writeup (and bonus points for Sketch-specific info — you've been a great resource for all things Sketch for me!), thanks!
Oh, super glad to hear that. I'm honestly really surprised at the amount of interest that people have in my Sketch blogs. :)
I left Meng a comment on the article directly, but it's worth mentioning here also. Mobile traffic has just recently topped 20% according to StatCounter. The 50% mentioned is looking solely at Amazon's mobile commerce traffic over the recent holidays.
Interesting. One thing to note is that it depends on where you are – I'm currently in Hong Kong and that stat is true here. But this is definitely something that would change based on product target, location and time.
Certainly would. Though, I'd probably qualify the quote with that information. I enjoyed the article either way, Meng, thanks!
another great post from meng. loving the whole series.
Thanks Dave, loving your mobile series as well. :)
Meng T, do you do front-end coding as well?
Yes, I did the front-end coding (more focus on the UI) for both the iOS App and the site.
Interesting. Very cool! It seems like designers are becoming more inclined to code. I love it. I just wrote a piece on Medium encouraging designers to code. Take a read and let me know what you think. Tks! https://medium.com/tell-me-your-story-and-experience/107aeeadda21
Nice write up.
Very handy post, Thanks Meng. I'm enjoying all your other pieces also. More about your process please!
